One of the biggest reasons for getting a laptop is portability; and almost anything that needs to be done on a computer that needs to be portable requires connection to the Internet. And finding outlets to plug an Internet cable into is anything but fun. Dragging all those extra wires around and being tethered to an outlet isn’t so great either.
That is why, as technology advances in leaps and bounds, having a wireless laptop seems like the only reasonable thing to do. Indeed, it almost defies the purpose of having a portable computer if it is not a wireless laptop. Having a wireless laptop is becoming the norm for college students, business people, and even recreational users of laptops. Wireless laptops enable students to travel and still keep up with their homework and turning in their assignments, and they facilitate connectivity to the office while business people are on-the-go. These are just a few of the conveniences of owning a wireless laptop.
Although laptops today are almost all made with built-in wireless card, you may be using a computer that does not have an internal wireless component. However, even if you have one of these older models, it is still possible to create your own wireless laptop out of it by getting an external wireless card.
No matter which way you choose to have a wireless laptop, you will have to have a way to connect to the Internet. At home, you will need a wireless gateway that connects to your DSL or cable modem in order for your households computers to connect to a wireless network. Elsewhere, like at a coffee shop, for instance, you may need a special code to log on, or you may need to subscribe to a service like T-Mobile.
